Introducing WoolSports |
The Musselman Triathlon had never had a title sponsor - until 2011. We're intensely protective of this race and its name, and in seven years we had never felt the need. But 2011 was different; in 2011 WoolSports was born.
This partnership has revolutionized the Musselman (err, the WoolSports Musselman). Over three years you'll enjoy wool nirvana: the finest apparel out there, provided by a company true to the Musselman ethos. The shirts, caps, and jerseys you'll receive at the Musselman are made in the United States from 100% merino wool from Australia and New Zealand.
If you've followed the Musselman, you know we've searched year after year for a better material for our race shirts. We've sourced cotton, organic cotton, polyester, bamboo, bamboo/charcoal, and recycled polyester. Wool represents the pinnacle of this search: honed by nature and evolution over thousands of years, wool's performance characteristics surpass all other fabrics. The long and short of it is: wool works.
Here's the true awesomeness: what you see below are the very first, custom, 100% wool podium jerseys made exclusively for the WoolSports Musselman. If you get yourself on the podium at the end of the Musselman or mini-Mussel, you'll take home a trophy on your back. These jerseys will only be available on the podium!
Not to worry, though, everyone will be able to enjoy wool at the WoolSports Musselman. In 2011, all participants received a pair of merino wool Musselman socks. In 2012 and 2013, the official race shirt will be 100% wool for both athletes and volunteers. And you'll be able to take home much more - WoolSports will have a wide variety of merchandise at the race available for purchase. Get ready to get stylish!

Merino wool is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It's naturally odor-resistant, moisture-wicking, and quick-drying (you've never seen a wet, cold sheep!). Merino wool is biodegradable and hypoallergenic because 18-and 19-micron fibers are below the sensitivity of the human skin. It has a luxurious feel and is machine washable. Merino wool:
- is multi-climatic - it regulates body temperature.
- is breathable. Wool absorbs moisture and transfers it into the air - leaving dry layers next to the skin.
- repels liquid (like rain).
- allows the body to retain warmth even when wet.
- does not hold odors.
- does not wrinkle.
- is flexible and tailors easily.
- retains shape.
- resists fire - wool will smolder, not burn.
- has a natural strength and elasticity that responds to the wearer's body movement.
- lasts by resisting wear and tear.
- is lightweight and durable.
- is biodegradeable.
- is renewable, sustainable, and natural.
